The learning circle participants overwhelmingly voiced that Curation will likely be a Strategic, Integrated Talent Development Capability (and NOT A FAD). There is so much (internal and external) content available, it seems unlikely the more efficient learning solution needs to be built in-house or purchased from expensive 3rd-party vendors.

 	<li>When curating L&amp;D content, next practice is to identify trusted, curated content libraries (vs. random sites found on the internet where URL links likely will be unreliable).</li>
 	<li>Our value-add in L&amp;D and HR functions is to augment curated content with organizational specific content(i.e., a curated micro-learning might be 80% - 95% curated content and augmented with 5% - 20% company specific content).</li>

The power of mentoring as a learning process was cited throughout the Learning Leaders conference on October 30. Partnering with Triple Creek Associates to bring you an e-mentoring tool, you can experience this opportunity by serving as a mentor to others in the learning field, right here in Chicagoland.
There are two goals of the session. The first is to help you get started using an e-mentoring tool. The second goal is to share tips for the successful implementation of an e-mentoring initiative. You are encouraged to set-up your e-mentoring profile as either a mentor, mentee, or both before the December 11 session.
Here’s how setting up your e-mentoring profile works. It’s all online:

 	<li>You identify your areas of strength (customized for learning and development professionals)</li>
 	<li>The software automatically matches mentees with mentors based on selected strengths and interests</li>
 	<li>When a mentee emails you requesting you be their mentor, you see what they are interested in learning and can accept or reject the request based on topics or your schedule</li>
 	<li>You limit the number of mentees you take on. You stay in control</li>
 	<li>Most mentoring will be by phone or email – personal meetings are optional</li>
 	<li>If you get too busy to take on more mentees, you can select ”unavailable” and will not receive requests</li>
</ul>
Attendees for the October 30 conference received a one-page program overview and the “user group codes” to enter as you set up your e-mentoring profile.

Some of the most important training initiatives also present the most difficult challenges to practicing the new-found knowledge. Safety concerns, logistics problems, and other restrictions limit your options and decrease your training effectiveness. For Children’s Memorial Hospital, this was especially true of training for their evacuation procedures. It is impossible to practice a full evacuation of the hospital, which limited the realism of training efforts.
Virtual worlds like Second Life offer a solution. Using virtual worlds, you can build immersive simulations that mimic real-world events. Children’s Memorial Hospital partnered with Centrax Corporation to build a portion of the hospital in Second Life. Employees of the hospital will use an avatar to evacuate patients virtually and stage them for transfer. This provides an unprecedented level of realism. It also facilitates learning experiences that are impossible to capture with traditional e-learning or classroom training.

 	<li>It is possible to create psychological fidelity (the perception of a correlation to the real world) without photo-realism.</li>

He is an idea generator, a visionary, a consultant, and a thought leader.
As an internationally recognized consultant and thought leader in learning and human resources development, Nick has written articles and has been quoted by Bizz magazine, BusinessWeek, The Financial Times, FORTUNE, The India Times, Learning &amp; Training Innovations magazine, Management Consulting, and T+D magazine, among others.
